Mr Vimal J Gokani

Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic, and Lymphatic Surgeon

With early training in general and vascular surgery, and an academic background, Vimal proceeded to train on the highly competitive London Rotation in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He has worked in some of the worlds most renowned units, including Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, The McIndoe Cosmetic Clinic, St Thomas Hospital, The Evelina Childrens Hospital, and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He completed a fellowship in Microsurgical Reconstruction at Imperial, and further training in supermicrosurgery and lymphoedema surgery in Hiroshima, Japan.

Commitment to Patient Safety and Research

Vimal is committed to patient safety and research. He is the lead for Audit and Research in the Department of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He is a committee member of the Professional Guidelines Committee for Breast Cancer Related Lymphoedema. This is a role within The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence NICE, where he serves on the committe which is writing the national guidelines for the prevention and treatment of lymphoedema.

Professional Contributions

He was past president of The Association of Surgeons in Training, and has sat on the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a consulting editor for the acclaimed journal, Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Global Open, and has written over 50 academic papers, and a number of book chapters. Vimal has given multiple talks at national and international meetings, and is involved in teaching and training across the board. As a member of the Educational Program Committee of The American Society of Plastic Surgery, Vimal helps to conceive the program for the largest plastic surgery meeting in the world.
